KISS AT SARINA BAYFEST

KISS AT SARNIA BAYFEST
By TARA HAGAN, SUN MEDIA
Bayfest’s rock weekend lineup is official, with KISS hitting the stage on July 10. Organizer Michele Stokley said she was relieved to finally get the word out. “People have been so anxious to know the lineup. It’s been more overwhelming this year than any other year,” she said, noting online petitions and social networking groups focused on Bayfest 2009. “It’s great that people are putting so much thought into Bayfest.” Internet rumours had focused on KISS making an appearance in Sarnia, and Stokley said she can finally confirm it. “We’ve been trying for years and years to get them,” she said, noting organizers came close last year but conflicting tour dates kept the legendary rockers away. “It feels really good; we’re really excited.” KISS will perform on Friday, July 10. Known for its trademark face paint and stage outfits since emerging in the 1970’s, the band has sold more than 85 million records worldwide. “It’s more than just a rock show. It’s everything that goes with KISS. They’re a great band to see live,” said Stokley. Tickets are available locally at Stoke’s Bay, Stoke’s Inland, The Coffee Lodge, Sam the Record Man, and Libro Financial, or online at www.sarniabayfest.com.

GENE CHECKS IN TO KOL!

GENE CHECKS IN!

Date: March 27

Today, went through the entire set we intend on playing in the forthcoming SOUTH AMERICAN swing of our KISS Alive 35 World Tour. If you've seen some of the media coming out of S. America, you'll notice we're mostly playing soccer stadiums...and we're told the tix are almost all gone.

Today was a special day -- we all lined up to get Yellow Fever shots. Great. No one was anxious to get stung by a needle, but if that's what it takes for us to get together with 50,000 close friends we'll role up our sleeves.

We've also been recording our first New Studio Album in 11 years!!!. Produced by Paul Stanley. And, having Paul simply decide things, works better. Democracy is highly overrated. Paul is kickin' ass. The material sounds great and Tommy and Eric are in great form.

We have 4 tunes recorded. If you're a fan of our stuff from about 1977, you'll feel right at home. All of us have taken up the songwriting call to arms in the same spirit we once did -- without a care in the world and without outside writers. Nothing to prove to anyone. Just doing what comes naturally. Ignoring fashions, trends and with a personal vow from all of us: no rapping. There are plenty of people out there doing this and they don't need four palefaced guys pretending they're from the hood. Besides, I'm not sure how to correctly pronounce "wassup."

Tommy is finishing his solo tune. Sounds great, I can tell you. And Eric is going to sing on the album.

Most importantly, we are having the time of our lives, and can't wait to see our friends South of the Border.

We hop on our jet April 1st, on the way to gig #1-Santiago.

See you all there...Or maybe later!

KISS ARMY LOSES A GOOD FRIEND, HOPE HACKER

We are very saddened to report the KISS ARMY has lost one of it's own, Hope Hacker. Hope created one of the first internet boards, Hope's Paul Stanley Page, dedicated to her hero, Paul Stanley. Eventually, Hope joined Paul Stanley's Paradise, a site dedicated to Paul and his fans, as a moderator and graphic artist. Hope had many friends in and out of the Kiss community.
Hope, a great lover of cats, will be remembered for her many talents, low-key and good nature spirit. Our deepest sympathies to her family and those close to her. May Hope rest in peace.

GENE TALKS NEW ALBUM WITH ROLLING STONE

The first studio album from Kiss in more than a decade will include songs “about the obvious things,” says bassist-singer Gene Simmons, citing titles such as “Rotten To The Core.” “No secret to life, no political messaging, nothing like that,” he says of the lyrics.

As previously reported, Simmons confirms Kiss’ first album since 1998’s Psycho Circus will be produced by singer-guitarist Paul Stanley. “I don’t have enough time to tie my shoelaces and there’s nobody else I trust more than Paul,” says Simmons, who’s currently in Toronto to find three Canadian acts to sign to his recently resurrected Simmons Records, for which he has partnered with Universal Music Canada and businesswoman/former politician Belinda Stronach.

PAUL TALKS ABOUT VINYL'S LOST ARTFORM

PAUL STANLEY TALKS ABOUT VINYL RECORDS AND A LOST ARTFORM- A.M. NEW YORK
Paul Stanley, of the legendary band Kiss, laments the diminished status of the LP because it marked a loss of an artform.
“The beauty in buying an LP used to be you got a package, a piece of art — something that someone worked hard on to make it creative, dynamic and interesting to look at it and maybe to put on your wall,” Stanley said. “And now with CDs, all you can see is someone’s name. In that way I miss it.”
Stanley said that if the demand called for it, Kiss would release its new album on vinyl.

TOMMY THAYER INTERVIEWED

TOMMY THAYER INTERVIEW:
2009

BY RICKY CATZ

Source:- http://www.kisskillers.com.br/
Harlley Rodrigues (Kiss Killers Brazil)

Ricky: Hi Tommy, how are you?
Tommy: I’m fine, thanks!

Ricky: The Kiss is coming to Brazil, will be a great presentation, believe it. What is your expectation?
Tommy:KISS in Brazil is always huge and this time will be no different. After the start of our Alive/35 tour in Europe last summer that went so well, the band is primed and ready to put on the ultimate show for the fans of Brazil. It's gonna be a party!

Ricky: Many fans awaiting this show for 10 years, what Kiss reserve us for the big day?
Tommy:The band is rockin' like never before.

Ricky: Tell me about the new album from Kiss. Can you say something about it?
Tommy: We're in the recording studio right now working. Your gonna love it!

Ricky: Do you will sing a song in the album?
Tommy: No plans to.

Ricky: With the release of the album, do you believe that the band would return to Brazil?
Tommy: I think that's a great idea.

Ricky: I don’t know if someone already asked you this, but when and how do you received the invitation to replace Ace Frehley?
Tommy: As you might know, I've been in the KISS camp for many years. When the time was right, it happened naturally.

Ricky: Did you want to create your own makeup?
Tommy: No

Ricky: How do you see the Kiss in the future?
Tommy:KISS will live on. You can not refute 35 years of bombastic spectacular.

Ricky:Tommy, thanks a lot for interview, and see you in São Paulo!
Tommy:I can't wait to see the Brazil KISS Army loud and proud!

NEW KISS TRADING CARDS SET FOR APRIL 15!

THE KISS ARMY WILL LOVE THIS UPCOMING SET!

By Chris Olds

Forget your baseball cards for a minute … the latest non-sport set from Press Pass will have collectors breathing fire, spitting up blood, throwing the goat and ripping packs with the dial turned up to 11.It’s the upcoming KISS Ikons set, which consists of 90 cards — including special “fire” and “blood” parallel cards — along with authentic Gene Simmons stage-worn memorabilia cards and instant win autograph redemptions good for autographed photos of Simmons and Paul Stanley. (Oh, and it includes temporary tattoos and stickers, too, which are good for making that notebook of yours look like it’s 1975 all over again.) Each 24-pack box should cost you less than $50 as packs carry a suggested retail price of $1.99.In all seriousness, it’s been awhile since we’ve seen KISS cards (1978 Donruss comes to mind, but there have surely been others) and with the band releasing an album and going on tour this year, they’ll surely drive ‘em wild (and maybe a little crazy, too) all night and ev-er-y day.If you’re not old enough to know, this is the band that kick-started the whole marketing machine in music with countless products and items to satisfy their fans. Oh, and they’ve sold more than 85 million albums, too.So, the next question is … how many boxes of cards? We’ll find out starting on April 15.

PAUL STANLEY IN TIME MAGAZINE

TIME MAGAZINE
FROM KISS FRONT MAN TO GALLERY ARTISTE
By Carolina A. Miranda
On an overcast afternoon in the tony New Jersey enclave of Short Hills, dozens of patrons have packed into the Wentworth Gallery to celebrate an art opening. Glasses of chilled chardonnay are served in the white-walled space as a battalion of gallery assistants respond to customer queries about abstract works in shades of blush and marigold. But make no mistake: this is not your average academic art exhibit. A quick scan of the attendees reveals lots of big hair, tight jeans and hints of rocker-girl décolletage. The sound system throbs with the refrain "Lick it up, lick it up." And ...Full Story

CURT CUOMO INTERVIEW

DEUCE'N'VIEWS EXLUSIVE: CURT CUOMO by Fabio Mainardi/Deuce News
KISS NEW ALBUM WITH '70 KISS SOUND? I THINK IT'S A GREAT MOVE.
Well, since August 2008, when I started this webzine, I interviewed mostly musicians and I'm thrilled to chat with a man who's not only a gifted musician and a songwriter but also a big producer and owner of a great recording studio, the Woodland Ranch Studios in Woodland Hills (north of Los Angeles). I'm talking about Mr. Curt Cuomo!!!
Hi Curt, you recently produced the latest Edgar Winter album, Rebel Road (with Slash making a guest appearance). How about the producer role? I personally think is quite similar to be like a coach in a football or in a basketball team, am I wrong?

You're not wrong at all. It really is like being a coach keeping all the moving pieces working
together in harmony.

You worked with numbers of really famous artists such as John Fogerty, Duran Duran, Axl Rose, Edgar Winter to name just a few and of course KISS. Is there someone among them who represented something really "special" for you?
Well all of them are special artists in their own right of course. Kiss was very special for many
reasons and friendships that came out of that experience. And writing and producing for
Edgar Winter's new album Rebel Road with Slash playing amazing riffs and lead guitar on
the single was quite special also.

As everybody knows KISS are now in the process to record their new album in almost 10 years and according to Paul it will have a typical '70 KISS sound.
What do you think about this move?

I think that's a great move. They became famous for that sound and their great live
performances of course. The fans love classic KISS and giving them more of it is a no brainer.

You worked with Paul for the Carnival of Souls album and for the latest KISS album Psycho Circus so far. How about writing with Paul? Do you start from scratch or from previous own song ideas?
On Carnival a little bit of both actually, but on Psycho Circus that was from scratch writing
in the studio together. Paul came up with that now famous guitar part on the chorus and as he did I sang the melody over it and Psycho Circus was born.

As you said you are the co-writer of their latest big hit single Psycho Circus.
Have you been contacted by Paul & Gene or did you worked together in these last periods?
I am not at liberty to answer that at this time.

You have been working in the music industry for more then twenty years exploring many aspects of the music business. Have you new projects in the pipeline right now you would like to talk about?
Among several new projects I am writing with and producing a very exciting new artist
named Brandon Merrit. A 19 year old rock/blues/alt based artist with an amazing voice and
passion for music. Be on the look out for this guy soon. What the music industry really needs right now in my opinion is real, talented artists with their own unique point of view and less cookie cutter TV generated 15 minute celebrities. I intend to bring real artists back to the main stage. Not that there aren't relevant artists today,
but there are too few of them.
Curt, I thank you so much for your kindest patience replying my questions!

PAUL STANLEY - "I DON'T LIVE BY ANYONE ELSE'S SENSE OF WHAT MY BOUNDARIES SHOULD BE"

By Ben Johnson/silive.com
Critics, it's time to shake in your platform boots. Rock 'n' roll's 'Starchild" doesn't put on his leather or smear his palette to impress you.
"I don't live by anybody else's sense of what my boundaries should be, or what their expectations or limitations might be, so whether it was doing 'Phantom of the Opera' or painting, or KISS, it's all things that I look at and find appealing," says KISS guitarist Paul Stanley, who will make special appearances with his paintings at two galleries in New Jersey this weekend. "What the art world thinks honestly has no more impact on me than what the music world thinks. It's what the people think."
